Art and Design
Barley Hill Primary School Art and Design Intent
“Every child is an artist.” Pablo Picasso
At Barley Hill Primary School, we recognise and value the need for children to express their thoughts, interests, ideas and feelings. We aim to expose children to a myriad of mediums, through which they are able to creatively express themselves. With a cross-curricular approach, children are able to broaden their content knowledge, while evaluating and being introduced to a wealth of artists, art forms and styles.
The National Curriculum for Art and Design aims to ensure that all pupils:
- produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
- become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques
- evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design
- know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
