Healthy heroes are a small group of children from Years 1 through 6 who work together to promote a healthy life style.
So far we have run a competition to name the growing beds for each year group which they will use for the whole time that they are Barley hill. We encourage all year groups to use their raised beds to watch produce being grown, harvested, cooked or sold. Some was even used for school dinners. The Foundation Stage has their own growing area which they look after; they really enjoy eating what they have grown.
At the moment we are encouraging the school to drink more water (not squash) to keep hydrated. We are making sure each class has somewhere to keep water bottles, children know how to refill these if needed and the importance of taking them home to be washed! We have asked the children to design posters to remind everyone to drink more water.
Our next project is to promote eating fruit at playtime; we know that this is really important but many children are not doing it at the moment and we are trying to find out why. We will then make a plan of action to see how we can improve this.
